1. Call to Worship: Psalm 104:24-35
Explanation: We begin our new sermon series today, “Thy Will Be Done.” It is a sermon series on God’s providence, God’s total government of all things in the world for His glory and our good. Psalm 104:24-35 gives us a beautiful description of that government in the natural world.

How many are your works, Lord!
In wisdom you made them all;
the earth is full of your creatures.
25 There is the sea, vast and spacious,
teeming with creatures beyond number—
living things both large and small.
26 There the ships go to and fro,
and Leviathan, which you formed to frolic there.

27 All creatures look to you
to give them their food at the proper time.
28 When you give it to them,
they gather it up;
when you open your hand,
they are satisfied with good things.
29 When you hide your face,
they are terrified;
when you take away their breath,
they die and return to the dust.
30 When you send your Spirit,
they are created,
and you renew the face of the ground.

31 May the glory of the Lord endure forever;
may the Lord rejoice in his works—
32 he who looks at the earth, and it trembles,
who touches the mountains, and they smoke.

33 I will sing to the Lord all my life;
I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
34 May my meditation be pleasing to him,
as I rejoice in the Lord.
35 But may sinners vanish from the earth
and the wicked be no more.

Praise the Lord, my soul.

Praise the Lord.

2. Prayer of Confession of Sin (said together or by one reader): Gracious God, we confess that we have longed too much for the comforts of this world. We have loved the gifts more than the giver. In your mercy, help us to see that all the things we pine for are shadows, but you are substance; that they are quicksands, but you are mountain; that they are shifting, but you are anchor. We plead your forgiveness on the merits of Jesus Christ. Accept his worthiness for our unworthiness, his sinlessness for our transgressions, his fullness for our emptiness, his glory for our shame, his righteousness for our dead works, his death for our life. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

3. Assurance of Pardon (read by leader): 1 John 1:9
Explanation: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

4. Song of Praise: “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty”

Praise To The Lord The Almighty

Praise to the Lord
The Almighty the King of creation
O my soul praise Him
For He is thy health and salvation
All ye who hear
Now to His temple draw near
Praise Him in glad adoration

Praise to the Lord
Who o’er all things so wondrously reigneth
Shelters thee under His wings
Yea so gently sustaineth
Hast thou not seen
How thy desires e’er have been
Granted in what He ordaineth

Hallelujah hallelujah
Hallelujah hallelujah

Praise to the Lord
Who doth prosper thy work and defend thee
Surely His goodness and mercy
Here daily attend thee
Ponder anew
What the Almighty can do
If with His love He befriend thee

Praise to the Lord
O let all that is in me adore Him
All that hath life and breath
Come now with praises before Him
Let the Amen sound from His people again
Gladly fore’er we adore Him

5. Scripture Reading: Romans 8:28-32

28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[a] have been called according to his purpose. 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.

More Than Conquerors
31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?

6. Song of Praise: “Sovereign Over Us”

There is strength within the sorrow
There is beauty in our tears
And You meet us in our mourning
With a love that casts out fear

You are working in our waiting
Sanctifying us
When beyond our understanding
You’re teaching us to trust

Your plans are still to prosper
You’ve not forgotten us
You’re with us in the fire and the flood
Faithful forever perfect in love
You are sov’reign over us

You are wisdom unimagined
Who could understand Your ways
Reigning high above the heavens
Reaching down in endless grace

You’re the lifter of the lowly
Compassionate and kind
You surround and You uphold me
And Your promises are my delight

Your plans are still to prosper
You’ve not forgotten us
You’re with us in the fire and the flood
Faithful forever perfect in love
You are sov’reign over us

Even what the enemy means for evil
You turn it for our good
You turn it for our good and for Your glory
Even in the valley You are faithful
You’re working for our good
You’re working for our good and for Your glory

Your plans are still to prosper
You’ve not forgotten us
You’re with us in the fire and the flood
Faithful forever perfect in love
You are sov’reign over us

Faithful forever perfect in love
You are sov’reign over us

7. Prayer of Thanksgiving:
Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we your unworthy servants give you most humble and hearty thanks for all your goodness and loving kindness. We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ, for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory . . . [here, each person may pray out loud giving thanks for specific things]. . . . And give us, we pray, such a sense of all your mercies that our hearts may be unfeignedly thankful, and that we show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up ourselves to your service, and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be all honour and glory, for ever and ever. All Amen.

8. Prayers of Intercession: One person leads, and people pray silently at various points noted in the prayer.

In the power of the Spirit and in union with Christ, let us pray to the Father.

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, you promised through your Son Jesus Christ to hear us when we pray in faith.

Strengthen Pastor Wes and the Elders of Evegreen Church, the Elders of the Tennessee Valley Presbytery, and and all your Church in the service of Christ, that those who confess your name may be united in your truth, live together in your love, and reveal your glory in the world. [Here people should pray for specific churches and church leaders on their hearts out loud or silently].

Bless and guide President Donald Trump; give wisdom to all in authority; and direct this and every nation in the ways of justice and of peace; that we may honour one another, and seek the common good.

Be with the doctors, nurses, researchers and all medical professionals who seek to heal and help those affected and who put themselves at risk in the process. May they know your protection and peace.

Give grace to us, our families and friends, and to all our neighbours, that we may serve Christ in one another, and love as he loves us. Comfort and heal all those who suffer in body, mind, or spirit [here people can pray silently or out loud for people in need]; give them courage and hope in their troubles; and bring them the joy of your salvation.

Thank you for those who have gone before us and who have died in the faith of Christ, particularly we remember [here you may say names of people who have died whom you particularly remember]; according to your promises, grant us with them a share in your eternal kingdom.

Rejoicing in the fellowship of all your saints, we commend ourselves and the whole creation to your unfailing love. Amen.

9. Scripture Reading: Matthew 6:25-34 (listen to an audio version of all of Matthew 6 here)
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

10. Sermon: “God Will Take Care of You (Matthew 6:26)

You can watch the video below or read the substance of the message here.

11. Benediction: Do not worry about anything in life—
what you’ll eat, or what you’ll wear.
Look at the birds of the air,
or the flowers in the field.
If God takes such good care of birds and flowers,
how much more will He care for you?
So don’t be afraid.
Instead, let your lives be marked by compassion and generosity,
sharing what you have been given with those in need,
storing up your treasure in heaven
instead of here on earth.
And may the blessing of God—Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer—
encourage and strengthen you in every good word and deed.
